... that Matt is basically a pioneer?

This is Matt.

He grinds his own cornmeal to make cornbread.  He is awesome.

I love my husband :)

... that we needed a staycation?

After I planned our work retreat last February, my boss gave me a complimentary night at Daniel's Summit that he had gotten as a "thank you" from the lodge for having our retreat there.  I tucked it away for a special occasion, and when we got an invitation to (Matt's friend) Shaun's wedding in Park City, we decided this was the perfect excuse to make it a weekend not-too-far-away getaway!

We left after work on Friday and stopped in Heber for a little dinner, where Matt fell in love with a burrito.

Then we made it up to Daniel's Summit Lodge where we relaxed, watched some TV, and enjoyed our free night.  Nothing too exciting, but good to get away.

The next morning, we drove into Park City for a quick trip to the outlets (I was shocked that Matt even suggested going there!), then rushed up to the Park City Mountain Lodge for the ceremony.  As I was looking up the address, I mentioned to Matt that the Lodge must be an actual ski lodge, cause I could see all the ski runs on the map.  Matt responded, "Oh yeah, I think we're supposed to ride a chair lift up to the wedding."
And he was not lying.

Seriously, coolest idea ever.

The scenery was beautiful, the weather was great.  Luckily, it didn't start pouring rain until AFTER we all got back down the mountain for the reception.  And speaking of getting back down the mountain...

Yes, we rode the Alpine Slide down to the reception hall.  In our wedding clothes and everything.  Hilarious.  The rest of the night was dinner, cupcakes, open bar, music, dancing, and lots of laughing.  I was completely exhausted by the time we left, so yeah, it was a pretty good party.

I love weekend staycations with my baby :)

We all went to Guru's afterward for brunch, and Matt gave her his token graduation gift: an alumni license plate frame.  My husband is so sweet :)

We are so proud of this girl.  Now it's on to bigger and better things: BYU Law!!!
You're gonna rock it, Renee, cause you're awesome like that.

... that sometimes we have fun?

Sometimes we stay at home and watch TV and sit on the couch and take naps.  Sometimes we (and by "we" I mean "I") are an old married couple that wants to go to bed early.  But sometimes we are actually cool.  Like sometimes we go to Bee's games

And sometimes we invite Kar and Zach and Lisa and Brian and babies to go to the rodeo with us.

Every once in a while, we're pretty cool.

We love to have fun :)

... that Matt said:

On watching his nephews:  "If you need a babysitter, we have Benadryl."

Trying to give me a compliment:  "Krissy's legs are like angelic stalks.  You know... If angels grew on plants."

Another attempt at a compliment:
Matt:  "My eyes have cavities from looking at you."
Me:
Matt:  "Cause you're so sweet."
Me:
Matt:  "I had to get a root canal in my eyes."
Me:
Matt:  "I had to have braces on my eyeballs."
Me:
Matt:  "I just got another cavity from looking at your face."
Me:  "Please stop."

Talking about The Wheel of Time series:  "I just got nerd chills thinking about another sword fight."

At our church softball game:  "And we alllll win when we play with integrity!"  *people laughing*  "INTEGRITY IS NOT A JOKE PEOPLE!!!!!"

While eating goat cheese:
Matt:  "This is so good I just want to chèvre it into my mouth!"
Me:
Matt:  "Get it honey?  Cause of the cheese??"

While lying on a blanket:  "This doesn't feel like a sheep at all.  This feels like rubbing my face on a not very fluffy goat."

On pigeons:  "It's a carrier pigeon.  It carries hepatitis."

On having goals:  "Someday, we'll buy a house.  But before that day, we'll buy a cotton candy machine.  PRIORITIES!!!!!"

At his nephew's baby blessing:  "When Marc held up the baby, I heard someone whisper, 'Aaaaaaaaah savenyaaaaaaaaaaa!' real quietly, like in Lion King!  It was me."

On eating my homemade Chinese cooking:  "'Hoisin' rhymes with 'poison' and I won't eat it."

Again on Hoisin Chicken:
Me: "We could have hoisin chicken for dinner."
Matt: "You KNOW how I feel about hoisin."
Me:
Matt: "Is that joke getting old?"

On being creepy:  "The trick to being creepy is perfecting the creepy voice.  And slow movements."

(creepy face)

I love my Matty!!!

... that the party don't stop, no oh ooo oh ooo oh oh, oh ooo oh ooo oh oh

Thank you Ke$ha.  My party throwing will never stop.

The day finally arrived: Marc's Surprise party.

Tracy came over in the afternoon and it was mass chaos and stress a little crazy trying to get everything done and make sure the timing was right for the surprise and the food and everything, but we pulled it off.  Eeeeeeven if I was not the best lookout and accidentally gave everyone a false warning and they all yelled "SURPRISE!!!" for Byron when he walked into the backyard... oops.  Thankfully, that didn't ruin Marc's entrance, and he was totally surprised.  Made all the hard work totally worth it.

Great food, balloons, cake, Marc trivia, and a badminton tournament = party success.

Afterward, Kendy suggested that we hop over to Dave's work to try a couple of his delicious mocktails since Kim and Lance had never been there before.  Bonneville Brewery: delicious drinks, great food, and an awesome bar tender.  So fun!  Matt wasn't feeling well so he didn't come with, but when we took this picture, it felt like he was there:

Especially when they made fun of me while I taught them proper cheersing picture etiquette (head back, eyes closed, open-mouth laughing, for those of you who want to try this at home).

We finally got home at 1:00 in the morning, and I was seriously beyond exhausted.  But it was so fun!  Even if this was the third party we've thrown in one week and I've threatened Matt with a near death experience if he tells any more people they can throw parties at our house, let's be honest:

I love to party.

... that we are wacky for the Williams???

Like I mentioned, the Williams came and stayed with us while their daddy went to Chicago for a business trip.  And any time with the Williams is party time:

Pizzeria Limone

Snake time

Pedicures for me and Kim

And lots of baby holding

There was also dinner at Cheesecake Factory, watching movies, Sonic shakes, custards from Nielsen's, roll/bread stick dough practicing, cousin visits, Smashburgers, and lots and lots of playing.  Sometimes with things that weren't toys.

But that's okay, cause those kids are so darn cute.

Love those Williams :)
